Most frozen food suppliers buy from producers, store in third-party warehouses, and deliver via outsourced logistics. KHL Group operates differently. Since 1988, we have built and controlled every stage of our supply chain — from farmland to processing, cold storage, and final delivery. This article explains how that integrated model works and what it means for wholesale buyers.
Farming Since 1988
KHL Group was founded in 1988 as a fruit and vegetable farming operation in Johor. What began as a fresh produce business has evolved into an integrated frozen food supply chain — but the farming foundation remains. Today, KHL operates approximately 1,500 acres of farmland in Johor, growing crops that feed directly into our processing lines.
Owning farmland gives KHL control over crop variety selection, planting schedules, harvesting timing, and post-harvest handling. Produce is harvested at peak ripeness and moved to processing within hours — reducing the quality loss that occurs when raw materials travel long distances from farm to factory.
Processing & Cold Storage Facility
All processing takes place at KHL's 66,500-square-foot facility in Simpang Renggam, Johor. The facility includes receiving bays that accept raw materials directly from KHL farmland and approved suppliers, processing lines for sorting, washing, cutting, blanching, and freezing, and packaging stations that prepare finished goods for storage and shipment.
Supporting the operation is 120,000 cubic feet of cold storage capacity, maintained at temperatures appropriate for frozen food preservation. On-site storage eliminates dependence on third-party warehouses and allows KHL to hold inventory that can be dispatched on short notice — a practical advantage for buyers who need reliable restocking.
Self-Produced Brands: I DO & O Sayang
KHL produces two frozen food brands in-house using crops from its own farmland:
- I DO Sweet Corn — frozen sweet corn processed from corn grown on KHL farmland. The corn is harvested, husked, and frozen within the same day to preserve sweetness and texture. I DO is sold to wholesalers, food service operators, and export markets.
- O Sayang Fried Ice Cream — a frozen dessert product manufactured at the Simpang Renggam facility. Produced under HALAL-certified conditions, O Sayang is distributed to restaurants, catering businesses, and retail channels.
Self-production means KHL controls the raw material supply, the production process, and the quality of the finished product — without relying on contract manufacturers.
Imported Products: Chicken & Wagyu Beef
Beyond self-produced items, KHL imports and distributes frozen chicken and Japanese Wagyu beef. These products are sourced from approved international suppliers, received at the Simpang Renggam facility, and stored under the same cold chain conditions as KHL's own products.
Imported products complement the self-produced range, giving wholesale buyers access to a broader product catalog — corn and fried ice cream produced in-house, plus imported chicken and Wagyu beef — all through a single supplier relationship.
Logistics & Export Reach
KHL operates a fleet of 8 refrigerated trucks for domestic distribution. These vehicles maintain frozen temperatures from loading to unloading, ensuring products leave cold storage at the correct temperature and arrive the same way. For buyers in Johor, Kuala Lumpur, and across Peninsular Malaysia, this controlled logistics leg closes the cold chain loop.
For international markets, KHL exports to more than 20 countries, including Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia. Export shipments are handled through established freight partners with reefer container capability, supported by the documentation and certification required by each destination market.
One Supply Chain, One Point of Responsibility
The practical implication of an integrated supply chain is straightforward: when a wholesale buyer places an order with KHL, every stage — farming, processing, freezing, storage, and delivery — sits under one company. There is no gap between the farm and the processor, no handoff between a manufacturer and a third-party warehouse, and no ambiguity about who is responsible for product quality at any stage.
For buyers, this translates to:
- Consistent supply — KHL's own farmland and cold storage buffer against supply disruptions that affect buyers dependent on multiple intermediaries.
- Single contact point — one supplier relationship covers products, logistics, certifications, and quality documentation.
- End-to-end traceability — from the field where a crop was harvested to the truck that delivered it, the chain is documented and auditable.
- Stable pricing — owning production inputs reduces exposure to middleman markups and supply volatility.
Supply Chain That Delivers — Every Link, Every Day
KHL's supply chain was not designed overnight. It grew over three decades — starting with farmland in 1988, adding processing capacity, building cold storage, acquiring a logistics fleet, and expanding export markets step by step. The result is a supply chain where every link is owned and operated by the same group, giving wholesale buyers one fewer thing to worry about.
